www.brevard.edu/clarion Volume 78, Issue 9 Web Edition SERVING BREVARD COLLEGE SINCE 1935 BC cyclists win the gold in NM By Erica Zaveta StaffWritei^^ The Tornados took their third Division II national title in four years for Collegiate Mountain Biking last week in Angel Fire, N.M. This team of ten is composed of a mixture of gravity riders and endurance riders who used their skills and talents to score the most amount of points per event, adding to the team’s overall standing. The weekend of racing started out with the endurance riders racing cross-country, an endurance event between an hour and a half to two hours. The elevation of Angel Fire NM is at able 9,000 feet on the mountain, which is big factor to consider for athletes. Cypress Gorry overcame this challenge and took the individual title with Angel Fire local Lewis Gaffney finishing right behind in second. The women raced after the men’s finish. Erica Zaveta took 3rd with Nichole Miranda in 17th. Saturday began with the second endurance event, short track. This twenty-minute race takes place over a small loop consisting of a gradual climb and single-track descent, taking about two to three minute per lap. For the men’s race.
